New Delhi is set to host the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026, with the tournament scheduled to take place at Thyagraj Stadium from July 27 to August 2 next year.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially announced the event, stating that the championship will mark the return of a major international sporting competition to the national capital.

The tournament will be jointly organised by the Table Tennis Federation of India and the Delhi Government. More than 35 Commonwealth nations, including England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland, Wales, Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, are expected to participate in what is anticipated to be one of the largest editions of the championship.

The seven-day competition will feature multiple categories before culminating in the finals on August 2. Officials added that details regarding ticket sales, match schedules, and volunteer registrations will be announced in the coming months.

Speaking at the announcement event, Rekha Gupta highlighted Delhi’s legacy of hosting global sporting events and said the championship would further strengthen the capital’s international sporting profile. She assured that the government would provide world-class infrastructure and smooth arrangements for players and spectators alike.

Thyagraj Stadium will serve as the primary venue for both competition and ceremonial activities. Officials believe the event will showcase Delhi’s sporting infrastructure and organisational capabilities on the global stage.

Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood said hosting an international event of this scale would help strengthen the city’s identity as a leading sporting destination while also inspiring young Indian athletes. He added that the championship would provide emerging Indian table tennis players with an opportunity to compete against top international talent on home soil.

The event is also being viewed as part of India’s broader push to expand its footprint in global sports hosting ahead of future international multi-sport ambitions.
