Tiger Woods expected to change not guilty plea in Florida DUI case

Florida [US], September 2 (ANI): Legendary golfer Tiger Woods plans to change his ‘not guilty’ plea in a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) case after a rollover crash in Florida, according to court documents filed Tuesday, reported CBS News. noplasticplease.life

Back in March this year, Woods’ Land Rover clipped into a truck, rolled onto its side, resulting in the golfer being arrested. Woods pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence in the case in Martin County circuit court.

He is expected to appear before the court on Wednesday morning (Local time) for a plea conference hearing, as per a notice of hearing posted on Tuesday. No additional details about the nature of the plea were revealed.

During the accident, Wood was travelling at high speed on a beachside residential road on Jupiter Island, with his vehicle causing 5,000 USD damage to the track, as per an arrest report. He managed to get out of the accident without any injuries and told the deputy that he was looking at his phone and changing the radio station when he hit the truck.

Deputies at the scene said that Woods’ senses appeared impaired while answering questions and went on to perform some tests. Woods took a Breathalyser test, in which he registered zero alcohol, but refused to submit to a urine test, as per authorities.

The golf icon told the police that he had taken “a few" prescription medications, as per the arrest report, with two pills, identified later as hydrocodone, found in his pant’s pocket.

The arrest report had also said that Woods was “sweating profusely" and had bloodshot eyes, “extremely dilated" pupils after the crash.

Woods has travelled outside the US for seeking treatement at an inpatient treatment facility, as per court records.

In July, Judge Darren Steele gave approval to an agreement in which prosecutors were allowed to review medical records related to Woods’ crash and arrest. The judge had also signed off a similar agreement back in May, granting the prosecutors access to prescription medication records of golf legend at a Palm Beach pharmacy from the start of the year through the end.

Woods, 50, is one of the greatest golfers of all time and amongst the most recognised athletes in the world. He was the first person of black heritage to secure the Masters title back in 1997 and has several records to his name.

Woods has five Masters title wins, four Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA) Championship title wins, three US Open title wins and three The Open title wins to his name alongside several golfing records.

But multiple back and knee injuries/surgeries, car accidents and substance addiction have hampered his career.

Woods’ first public appearance since returning from treatment was back in June, when he introduced the PGA Tour’s plans of schedule revamp for 2028. He also retained his spot as the chairperson of the tour’s Future Competition Committee after his arrest. (ANI)

South Africa is set to take on Australia in the three-match Test series. The first Test match is scheduled to be played from October 9 at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban.

Ahead of the series, lead pacer Kagiso Rabada's feature is uncertain for the hosts. He sustained a right hamstring injury during the training session a few days ago, following which he was ruled out of the ODI matches against the Aussies.

Young pacer Kwena Maphaka expressed his readiness to step into Rabada's shoes if he doesn't recover in time for the Test series.

"I really hope that KG [Rabada] is back in time. But if that doesn't happen, it's one of those things where somebody has to step up, and if that's me, I'm really confident in my abilities," he told Cricinfo, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"I've led a bowling attack before with the Lions, with South Africa Under-19, and I've been in the Proteas for a little bit now. So yeah, I'm really confident in my abilities," added Maphaka.

Further, the pacer said that he has worked on his run-up and will aim to bowl in the right areas as consistently as possible.

"The biggest thing for me was really working on my consistency. I was decent in the T20 format, but there was a lot of work to do in the longer formats that would also help in T20s. We worked on a little bit of my run-up, but the biggest thing was just consistency and making sure that I can hit an area as consistently as possible. I feel that I've done that so far," he said.

The youngster's one eye is towards next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The speedster is targeting to become a regular in the South African pace attack by the time the home World Cup rolls around next year.

"It'll be a massive privilege and a massive honour (to be involved in that)," Maphaka said.

"I'd definitely love to be in the squad, and hopefully I could be one of the leaders at the forefront of next year's World Cup, especially being a home World Cup. I've had the opportunity to play in a home Under-19 World Cup, something that a lot of people haven't been able to do. That experience and being able to play in front of home crowds would be really special to do a second time around," he concluded.

The upcoming Afghanistan series will be played entirely in New Delhi, with the three matches scheduled for September 13, 15 and 17. India will be led by Shreyas Iyer, while Jasprit Bumrah returns to the squad, subject to fitness clearance.

The squad also includes Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar and Washington provide the all-round options, while Arshdeep Singh, Bumrah and Harshit Rana form the pace group.

After the series against Afghanistan, Shreyas Iyer and co will fly to the Japanese cities of Aichi and Nagoya for the 2026 Asian Games, where the Indians will be vying to defend the gold medal they won in the previous edition at Hangzhou three years ago.

Similarly for the women’s team, they will also be looking to win back-to-back Asian Games title following the conclusion of the on-going ACC Women’s Asia Cup in UAE.
