New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Indian para-athlete Dilip Gavit has his eyes set on two Asian Para Games gold medals after a record-breaking gold medal in the 100 m T47 event at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

India captured 16 medals in athletics at CWG 2026, with three golds, seven silver medals and six bronze medals. Out of this, six medals, including all three golds, came in para-athletics. History was scripted as in the men’s 100 m T47 event, Gavit established a new CWG record by clocking 10.71 seconds to claim the gold medal.

Speaking to ANI, Gavit expressed happiness with his performance and vowed to do even better in the Asian Games, with golds in both 100 m and 400 m competitions. He also pointed out the challenges faced in Glasgow and the support of the government to sportspersons. truewildgame.online

“I am very happy that I completed 100 meters in CWG, represented my country and made a record, winning gold. In the Asian Games, I want to win gold in both 100 meters and 400 meters," he said.

“PCI (Paralympic Committee of India), SAI (Sports Authority of India) and central government support us a lot with our training, diet and recovery. Though the weather in Glasgow was challenging. It was really cold out there."

Para-athlete Mohammed Basil, who secured the silver medal in the same event with timings of 10.83 seconds, also echoed his teammate’s sentiments, pointing out the challenging weather in Glasgow.

“This is my first competition and I am delighted, though the weather was a little challenging. I will come back in the next competitions," he said.

The 2026 Games were hosted under a compact format, leading to the removal of major Indian medal-earning events like shooting, wrestling, and badminton.

India finished fourth in the medals table at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Indian boxer and Commonwealth Games 2026 gold medallist Sakshi Chaudhary described India’s record-breaking boxing campaign as “feels like a dream" after the country secured a historic 10-medal haul, including seven gold medals, at the prestigious event in Glasgow.

Sakshi delivered a composed display in the women’s 51kg final to outclass England’s Ruby White by a unanimous 5-0 decision and claim the gold medal. India’s CWG 2026 campaign was headlined by boxing, where India reinforced its growing supremacy by collecting 10 medals, including seven golds. Along with Sakshi, World champion Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Ankush Panghal (80kg) also stood atop the podium. Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh and Narender Berwal added silver medals to complete an outstanding campaign for the Indian boxers.

Notably, no country has won more gold medals in boxing at a single edition of the Commonwealth Games.

Sakshi, along with the rest of the boxing contingent, received a grand welcome at the IGI Airport in Delhi on August 4. Speaking to ANI, Sakshi said the achievement of winning the gold “feels like a dream" and praised India’s best-ever Commonwealth Games boxing performance. She added that the team will now prepare for the upcoming Asian Games.

“It feels like a dream and you all have come to welcome us. We are feeling great. This was India’s best performance in the Commonwealth Games. We have got 10 medals, out of which 7 are gold medals. This is history in itself. Now there are Asian Games and we will prepare for them," she said.

Coming to Sakshi’s final bout against England’s Ruby, the Indian remained in control throughout the contest, effectively blocking her opponent’s attacks while landing sharp counter-punches, particularly with her right hand. White attempted to force her way back into the bout in the closing stages, but Sakshi remained unfazed before sealing victory with a unanimous verdict.

The triumph completed a remarkable year for Sakshi, who dropped down a weight category to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and famously defeated two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen during the national selection trials.

Earlier this year, she became the first Indian woman to win gold at the World Boxing Cup after defeating USA’s Yoseline Perez in Astana and also won gold at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia. She is also a former World Junior champion and a two-time World Youth champion. (ANI)

The Indian boxing contingent, which pulled off the country’s best CWG 2026 medal haul with seven gold medals and overall 10 medals, received a warm welcome at the Delhi Airport.

Speaking to ANI, Sachin, who secured a gold medal in the men’s 60 kg final, said that seeing the national flag hoisted after the gold medal win is a “different kind of happiness" and a reason why they all play sport.

“When the national flag is hoisted, there is a different kind of happiness. This is what we play for. I want to bring gold from the Asian Games. I want to tell everyone to keep believing like this and keep encouraging us," said Siwach.

Sachin staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo by a 3-2 split decision in a thrilling men’s 60 kg final.

Also, Preeti has her eyes set on not only the Asian Games this year in Japan taking place from September 19 onwards, but also the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, saying, “Thank you very much to everyone who came here to receive us. Our next target is the Asian Games and the LA 2028 Olympics. We cannot express our happiness on hearing the National Anthem play there. It is something that you can only feel."

The 2022 Asian Games bronze medalist Preeti secured the women’s 54kg gold medal at the CWG 2026 after defeating Canada’s Scarlett Delgado by unanimous decision in the final on Saturday.
