Qatar U-23 team continues Dutch camp with focus on Asian Games

Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s national under-23 football team continued their preparations for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games during an overseas training camp in the Netherlands, with the squad aiming to reach peak technical and physical condition ahead of the continental event.

As part of the camp’s programme, Qatar faced Dutch club Heracles Almelo in a friendly match, with the hosts securing a 2-0 victory. The fixture formed part of the coaching staff’s plans to provide players with valuable match experience against strong opposition while assessing the squad’s readiness before the Asian Games. tr-sport.click

The training camp includes a series of friendly matches designed to improve match fitness, strengthen team chemistry and fine-tune tactical preparations ahead of the tournament, which will be held in Japan from September 15 to October 3.

Qatar have been drawn in a challenging Group D alongside South Korea and Saudi Arabia in the men’s football competition, setting up what is expected to be a highly competitive battle for places in the knockout stage.

A total of 15 teams will compete in the tournament.

The group stage will be played in a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing directly to the Round of 16, along with the best third-placed teams.

The competition will then continue on a knockout basis through to the final, with a third-place playoff also scheduled.

The coaching staff is looking to maximise the benefits of the Netherlands camp by building greater understanding among the players while further improving their technical and physical readiness.

The overseas training programme is considered an important stage in Qatar’s preparations as the team seeks to enter the Asian Games in the best possible condition and compete strongly against the continent’s leading under-23 sides.

ومع حجز جوان غارسيا مركز حراسة المرمى في التشكيلة الأساسية لفريق المدرب الألماني هانزي فليك، أعار النادي الكاتالوني تير شتيغن إلى جيرونا في كانون الثاني/يناير، لكنه تعرّض في شباط/فبراير إلى إصابة في العضلة الخلفية للفخذ خلال ظهوره الثاني مع فريقه الجديد، ما أدّى إلى نهاية موسمه.

ولم يُستدع الدولي الألماني إلى قائمة منتخب بلاده المشارك في كأس العالم الأخيرة في أميركا الشمالية.

ويرتبط تير شتيغن الذي أحرز لقبا في دوري أبطال أوروبا عام 2015 وسبعة في “لا ليغا” مع برشلونة، بعقد حتى حزيران/يونيو 2028 مع بطل إسبانيا 29 مرة.

Paris, France: Mauricio Pochettino has signed a contract extension to remain the head coach of the United States national team until the 2030 World Cup, US Soccer announced Monday.

The 54-year-old took over in 2024 and led the USA to the last 16 at the recent World Cup, which they co-hosted with Canada and Mexico.

"It has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the men's national team program even stronger," said Argentinian Pochettino, whose coaching staff have also agreed new contracts.

"The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here...

"We want to try to have a lasting impact on the sport in the country that has welcomed us so warmly and for that impact to extend beyond results on the field."

The Americans won three matches at a World Cup for the first time before being knocked out by Belgium, following a huge controversy over FIFA's decision to suspended striker Folarin Balogun's ban for a red card.

Former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino was named coach two years ago, after previous boss Gregg Berhalter left following a group-stage exit from the 2024 Copa America which the USA hosted.

Pochettino helped turn things around and led the team to the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup final, which they lost 2-1 to Mexico.

He had been linked with a return to European club football, but will instead stay with the US until the next World Cup, slated to be largely held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

"Mauricio has built a culture where players trust the group, trust the process and trust each other," said US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone.

"We saw the impact of that belief in the way the team grew, competed and performed on the world's biggest stage."

The USA have not reached the quarter-finals of a men's World Cup since 2002, and hopes were high a partisan home crowd could carry them to at least that stage.

But after the Balogun affair, a fired-up Belgium quashed those hopes last month with a crushing 4-1 victory.

من جهة اخرى أعلن السد، أمس، ضم حارس المرمى أبوبكر محمد حسن قادما من نادي الخور. ووقع اللاعب عقدا انتقل بموجبه بشكل رسمي إلى السد لمدة خمسة مواسم حتى عام 2031، ليبدأ مسيرة جديدة في مشواره، بعدما انضم للخور قادما من نادي مسيمير في يوليو 2025.وكان السد تعاقد مع المدرب الروماني رزفان لوشيسكو الذي سيقود الفريق اعتبارا من الموسم المقبل خلفا للإيطالي روبيرتو مانشيني.
ويقيم السد معسكرا خارجيا في النمسا، استعدادا لخوض منافسات الموسم المقبل الذي يدافع فيه عن لقب «دوري نجوم بنك الدوحة»، وبقية البطولات المحلية، إضافة إلى المشاركة الخارجية في بطولة دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة.
